New York's melting pot of Puerto Rican, Cuban and African-American inhabitants led to some stunning musical and cultural clashes in the 1960s and 70s when Latin music mixed freely with Funk, Disco, Soul and Jazz to produce many new hybrid styles such as Bugalu, latin Soul, Latin Disco, Latin Funk and Salsa. Puerto Rican musicians in New York also held a fascination for new and old Cuban musical developments and rhythms - such as Mozambique, Descargas, Son Montuno, Charanga - as well as admiring the many styles from their homeland of El Borinquen (Puerto Rico), such as Bomba and Plena. The led music in New York to be one of the most fertile and creative of all areas of recent musical history. All these styles feature here on New York Latin Hustle.
